Adult Acne Treatment

Many people think of acne as a problem that only affects people during their teenage years. Unfortunately, this isn’t necessarily the case. Many adults suffer from this embarrassing, and sometimes painful condition, as well. In fact, adult acne is a very common problem, especially in women.

Even though you may be past the age when people expect to experience this condition, there are many factors that can contribute to the onset of adult acne. These include stress, hormonal changes, and reactions to cosmetics, just to name a few. Similarly, there are numerous approaches to acne treatment as well. The following is a look at a few of them.

Skin Care

One of the most effective forms of acne treatment involves simply changing the way you care for your skin. Many people use cleansers or soaps that are too harsh, or they scrub too hard when they clean their face. Gentle cleaning with a mild cleanser is recommended.

Pay attention to how different products affect the condition of your skin as well. Sometimes, simply changing the type or brand of skin care products you use can be an effective acne treatment. If you are prone to acne problems, be careful to only use products that are non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic. Popping pimples and squeezing blackheads should also be avoided. This will cause your acne to spread, and possibly cause infections as well.

Topical Acne Treatments

Basically, these are many lotions or creams that you apply to your skin to fight adult acne. There are hundreds of them on the market, and they all claim to be the best. For mild to moderate cases, products containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid have proven to be effective for acne treatment. It’s now possible to find these ingredients in many cosmetic products, such as moisturizers and foundations.

There are other topical acne treatments that are available by prescription only. These include the many retinoid based products on the market. These products can be quite effective, but they are capable of irritating the skin. Great care should be taken when using these products as they can also intensify the effects of sunburn.

Oral Medications and Surgical Procedures

For more severe cases, or when over the counter acne treatments fail, your dermatologist may suggest an oral antibiotic to treat your symptoms. Tetracycline is probably the best known of these types of medications. The idea is to treat the acne from the inside out by killing the bacteria that lies under the skin. Some of the more severe cases are treated with isotretinoin, which is, basically, an oral form of the retiniods discussed earlier. When the cause of the acne has been narrowed down to hormonal issues, medicines are often used to correct these imbalances as well.

In some cases, people must resort to surgical acne treatment. These treatments involve the extraction of blemishes with a special tool. More advanced forms of surgical acne treatment performed with the use of a laser.

Nearly half of adult women and a quarter of adult men are affected by acne. Sometimes the psychological effects can be as hard to deal with as the obvious physical ones. Finding an appropriate treatment is essential to maintaining not only your appearance, but your self-esteem as well.

How to Choose the Right Cosmetic Dentist?

When considering having Cosmetic Dentistry there are many factors which should be considered. Price is usually the top priority for people but experience and reputation of the dentist should really be first.

Here are the Perfect Smile Spa’s top tips that will help you choose the right Cosmetic Dentist:

- Don’t automatically go for the cheapest treatment. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best and you only get what you pay for.
- Ask the practice for a free consultation where you can discuss your concerns. Get a feel for the practice and the staff. If your first impression is not good then look elsewhere.
- Ask to see their portfolio of Cosmetic Dentistry done on other patients. A good Dentist should have photographs to show you of before and after Cosmetic treatment.
- At Perfect Smile Spa we have a portfolio kept in our reception area full of testimonials from our happy clients!
- Ask your friends if they have had the kind of treatment you desire or know of anyone who has and ask for their recommendations.
- The reception and Dental team should be able to answer your questions about the Cosmetic Dentistry as well as the Cosmetic Dentist. This shows that the staff has been highly trained.
- Ask about the Cosmetic training the Cosmetic Dentist has undertaken and the level of experience they have.
- Choose a dentist that not only specialises in Cosmetic Dentistry but also enjoys it as they will be practising Cosmetic Dentistry more than a General Dentist.
- Choose a Cosmetic Dentist who will listen intently to your concerns and desires. Ask about the stages of treatment. If the Cosmetic Dentist is willing to take the time and ensure he creates the perfect smile you long for, then this is the kind of dentist for you!
- A good Practice should give you a full written cost of all treatment needed before any treatment is booked. There should be no hidden extras.

Tips for Picking the Best Cosmetic Surgeon to Operate On You

Electing to have cosmetic surgery can not only alter or improve your appearance; it can change your life. Choosing a surgeon should not be taken lightly; your appearance, and life, will literally be in this person’s hands. Following are some tips for picking the best cosmetic surgeon to operate on you.

Take your time choosing a doctor. When having any kind of surgery, it’s important not to rush into any decisions. While cosmetic surgery is performed to alter one’s appearance, it’s still surgery, and carries inherent risks. While cost should be one factor in your decision, it shouldn’t be the primary one. Your peace of mind and the outcome of the surgery are equally, if not more, important. Don’t hesitate to interview several doctors and visit a few clinics before choosing where you will have your operation.

It’s important to choose a cosmetic surgeon that is board certified by BAAPS and BAPRAS associations. Certification requires that the surgeon has passed examination and been screened and recommended by other plastic surgeons to be able to join these prestigious associations.

It’s always best to choose a doctor that specialises in your desired procedure. For example, if you plan to have breast augmentation surgery, look for a doctor that specialises in breast cosmetic surgery. While there are many doctors that are skilled in several different procedures, choosing one that specialises in the treatment you’re seeking will help to ensure that you get the results you’re hoping for.

Deciding to have cosmetic surgery can be both exciting and scary. Take your time deciding upon a doctor, and don’t let cost be the only determining factor in your choice. By following the above tips, you’ll have a great chance of finding a surgeon that can meet your needs and give you the best results possible.
